On Tuesday, the Federal Government of Nigeria refuted rumors regarding the imminent collapse of Goronyo Dam. The Minister for State for Water Resources, Bello Goronyo, made this clarification following a visit to the dam.
Goronyo dismissed the collapse rumors as baseless and unfounded, stating, “The Dam is intact, in good condition, and poses no threat.” He explained that the dam, which has a capacity of 942 million cubic meters, currently holds about 685 million cubic meters of water, leaving ample space for additional water.
The minister assured residents of Sokoto and Kebbi States that there is no cause for alarm, urging them to disregard the false reports. He emphasized the government’s commitment to citizen safety and confirmed that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is dedicated to maintaining the dam’s integrity.
