The Dangote Refinery, a $20 billion project led by billionaire Aliko Dangote, has officially commenced petrol production, marking a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s energy sector. This development is anticipated to significantly ease the persistent petrol scarcity that has plagued the country, providing much-needed relief to millions of Nigerians.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Dangote emphasized the refinery’s potential to fuel growth and prosperity in Nigeria by ensuring a stable energy supply. He expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu’s administration for creating a favorable environment that enabled the completion of the refinery.
“I salute the people of Nigeria and President Bola Tinubu’s government for creating the conditions that allowed us to achieve this monumental task. This refinery will drive growth, development, and prosperity by providing energy to our people,” Dangote remarked.
Additionally, Dangote praised President Tinubu for the “Naira for crude, Naira for product” initiative, which he believes will stabilize the Naira by reducing the demand for U.S. dollars by 40%. This initiative is seen as a critical step towards strengthening Nigeria’s economy and ensuring a more self-sufficient energy sector.
