Prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, alongside Maxwell Opara and Deji Adeyanju, were among the legal team that accompanied the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, to the Force Headquarters for questioning. Ajaero is being questioned in connection with allegations of terrorism financing and other charges.

Legal Support: The NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, arrived at the Force Headquarters under the legal representation and support of notable figures including Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana, human rights activist Maxwell Opara, and political activist Deji Adeyanju. Their presence underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the determination of the NLC to ensure a fair process.

Mobilization of Labour Movement: In anticipation of the questioning, the Nigeria Labour Congress had mobilized its members to show solidarity by accompanying Ajaero to the Police Headquarters. However, Chief Falana, acting as the NLC’s legal counsel, advised the workers to remain at the Labour House to avoid any potential disorder at the Police premises.

Falana’s Assurance: Femi Falana assured the Labour movement that the situation was under control and that the legal team, which included lawyers from his Chambers, would ensure that Ajaero’s rights were protected during the questioning. He emphasized the importance of maintaining order and avoiding unnecessary confrontation with law enforcement.

Police Presence: While workers from various unions waited at the Labour House, there was a notable presence of police officers in the vicinity, possibly as a precautionary measure to maintain peace and security during the proceedings.

The questioning of the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, at the Force Headquarters, accompanied by a high-profile legal team, highlights the tension surrounding the allegations of terrorism financing. The Labour movement’s decision to heed Falana’s advice and avoid direct confrontation at the Police Headquarters reflects a strategy of legal resistance while ensuring solidarity remains strong among its members.
