Kaduna Shari’a Court Sentences 19-Year-Old for Assaulting Sex Worker
A Shari’a Court 1 sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna has sentenced Dahiru Usman, a 19-year-old man, to one month in a correctional facility for assaulting a sex worker, Zainab Idris.
The judge, Kabir Muhammad, also gave the accused the option to pay a fine of N70,000 as compensation to the victim, Zainab Idris, or face a 12-month jail term. The case was brought before the court after Zainab Idris, a resident of Kigo Road, New Extension, reported the assault to the Sabon Gari Police Station on January 15.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Luka Sadau, the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 pm on the same day when Dahiru and Zainab agreed to meet at a hotel on Constitution Road for a N10,000 sexual service agreement. However, an argument ensued between them in the hotel room, leading to Dahiru beating Zainab and striking her on the head with a hammer. As a result, she sustained injuries from the assault.
The prosecutor presented the hammer as evidence in court, requesting the judge to impose appropriate punishment on the accused and order him to pay N70,000 in compensation for the harm caused.
