A group of national officials from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the party’s aggrieved leaders to either accept the leadership of Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum or step down. The officials, speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, emphasized that Damagum’s position is settled until December 2025, and internal party mechanisms should be used to resolve any conflicts instead of publicly undermining the party.
Deputy National Youth Leader Timothy Osadolor, who spoke on behalf of the officials, condemned actions by some party members who, under the guise of advocating for due process, are creating confusion and divisions within the party. He called for an end to the ongoing media attacks and demarketing of the PDP, stressing that personal pride must be set aside in favor of rebuilding the party.
Osadolor highlighted that the PDP’s recent challenges stem from a lack of unity and accountability, which has led to the party’s poor performance in recent years. He emphasized that every member is complicit in the party’s struggles, either through active participation or silent support of the issues.
He urged party members to focus on unity and to support the PDP’s leadership, regardless of personal disagreements, while awaiting the resolution of ongoing court cases. He concluded by calling for a reevaluation of the party’s constitution and a commitment to work together to reposition the PDP for future success.
