The Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) has been authorized to oversee the state’s electricity market, according to a statement from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). This change follows Kogi State’s compliance with the amended Constitution and the Electricity Act of 2023, which allows states to manage their own intrastate electricity markets.
Under this new arrangement, NERC will retain oversight of inter-state and international electricity activities. The transfer process includes directives for the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to create a subsidiary, AEDC SubCo, responsible for Kogi’s intrastate electricity supply and distribution. AEDC SubCo is required to be incorporated within 60 days and to obtain a license from KSERC. All transfers must be completed by March 12, 2025.
