President Bola Tinubu Plans Cabinet Reshuffle Ahead of Independence Day
Ahead of Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1, President Bola Tinubu is reportedly preparing to reshuffle his cabinet in response to mounting criticism over his administration’s economic management. Sources within the presidency told *BusinessDay* that several key ministries are expected to see changes, including Petroleum Resources, Power, Transport, Water Resources, Environment, and Defense.
There is growing discontent within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with party members expressing concerns that poor economic performance could hinder the party’s chances in the 2027 elections. An APC chieftain, speaking anonymously, voiced frustration with the president’s economic policies, particularly regarding delays in filling key ministerial vacancies. The Humanitarian Affairs Ministry, which plays a crucial role in welfare distribution, has remained without a minister since the suspension of Betta Edu over corruption allegations. Similarly, Simon Lalong, who resigned as Minister of Labour and Employment to join the Senate, has not been replaced.
According to sources, the cabinet reshuffle is expected to be announced before or on October 1, as President Tinubu has been closely monitoring the performance of his ministers and is set to make changes accordingly.
