Dr. Alimi AbdulRazaq, the Mutawali of Ilorin, has urged leaders in northern Nigeria to urgently tackle the region’s educational backwardness and youth unemployment to curb insecurity. Speaking to the Kwara State branch of Gamji Members Association (GAMA) at his residence in Ilorin, AbdulRazaq emphasized that a lack of access to education and job opportunities are key drivers of insecurity in the North. He highlighted that educated youths are less likely to engage in criminal activities and that providing jobs for the unemployed would help restore peace in the region.
AbdulRazaq commended the peaceful atmosphere in Kwara State, attributing it to effective leadership and security efforts, and called for this model to be replicated across other northern states. He criticized northern leaders for not continuing the legacy of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, whose ideals focused on the development of the North. AbdulRazaq also praised the efforts of GAMA in preserving the legacy of the late Sardauna and urged unity among northerners.
GAMA President General, Alhaji Tunde Akanbi, lauded the contributions of AbdulRazaq’s family, particularly Alhaji AGF AbdulRazaq, the first lawyer from northern Nigeria, and noted Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s success in transforming Kwara into a model state.
