APC Announces Moshood Olayide-Abas as New Acting Chairman in Oyo State
Moshood Olayide-Abas has been appointed as the Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, following the death of the former chairman, Isaac Omodewu.
Olayide-Abas, who previously served as the Deputy State Chairman, was elevated to this position after a ratification by the APC State Executive Committee (SEC) during an emergency meeting held in Ibadan on Monday. His appointment is in line with the party’s constitution, which mandates that the Deputy Chairman assumes the role in the event of a vacancy.
Party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, issued a statement confirming the decision, highlighting Olayide-Abas’s extensive experience both as a politician and a professional.
“Olayide-Abas, a certified pharmacist, started his political journey with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the 1970s, under the mentorship of the late Bola Ige. He served as Executive Chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area in 1991 and held key positions under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi,” the statement read.
Olayide-Abas’s long-standing history with the Progressives, including his leadership roles in the defunct Action Congress (AC) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), solidified his credentials for the role.
His leadership is expected to steer the APC in Oyo State as they move forward, ensuring continuity following the loss of Isaac Omodewu.
