Osun State Disability Group Urges Governor Adeleke for Inclusion in Teacher Recruitment
The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Osun State Chapter, has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to ensure fair inclusion of persons with disabilities in the ongoing teachers’ recruitment exercise in the state. The group made the appeal through a statement issued by its Chairman, Stephen Oluwafemi.
In their statement, JONAPWD emphasized the need for the state government to implement the disability law, which was recently passed but has yet to be fully enacted. The group urged the government to take swift action to ensure that the rights and opportunities promised to people with disabilities under the law are realized, especially in the recruitment process for teaching positions.
“We call on the government to ensure that persons with disabilities are given fair representation and equal opportunities in the recruitment process,” the statement read.
JONAPWD further stressed that the implementation of the disability law would not only improve the lives of people living with disabilities but also contribute to the overall socio-economic development of Osun State.
The group also appealed to the government to adopt inclusive recruitment practices across all state agencies and to provide reasonable accommodations and support services for persons with disabilities. They also requested sufficient resources to be allocated for the effective implementation of the disability bill.
“We are confident that the Osun State Government will take prompt action to implement the Disability Bill, and we look forward to working together to create a more inclusive society,” Oluwafemi added.
This call comes as the recruitment exercise gains momentum, with many in the state eager for equal representation and opportunities for all citizens, including those with disabilities.
