The Lagos State Police Command is investigating the murder of a young man in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos State. The incident occurred on September 6, 2024, at approximately 9:10 p.m.
According to Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, a distress call was received from concerned citizens reporting that a group of four unidentified gunmen were seen pursuing a young man along Abeokuta Street, Okokomaiko. The attackers opened fire on the victim, targeting his head, stomach, and legs, before fleeing the scene.
Police anti-crime units were dispatched to the scene shortly after 9:30 p.m. There, they encountered Ms. Vivian, the victim’s mother, who identified the deceased as her 20-year-old son. The victim’s name is being withheld for security reasons. He had been shot multiple times and was confirmed dead at the scene.
Photographs of the deceased were taken, and his body was transported to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for further examination.
Hundeyin assured the public that the police are working diligently to track down the suspects. “Investigation is currently in progress, and efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the suspects. This act of violence will not go unpunished,” Hundeyin stated.
The case has been handed over for a discreet investigation, and the Lagos State Police Command has appealed to the public for any information that could assist in apprehending the culprits.
