Dr. Musa Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corruption Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has emphasized the necessity of a unified approach to combat corruption in Nigeria.
In a statement released on Sunday by the ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare, Aliyu outlined the commission’s commitment to implementing robust measures to address corruption. He announced that the ICPC would be hosting a critical roundtable discussion with Attorneys-General and Commissioners for Justice from all 36 states and other key stakeholders in Abuja on Monday.
The meeting, themed “Building a Unified Front Against Corruption in Nigeria,” is organized by the ICPC with support from the MacArthur Foundation. It aims to address corruption challenges and enhance anti-corruption efforts at all levels of government.
Aliyu explained that the summit is part of a strategic initiative to advance the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) and strengthen collaboration between the ICPC and state Attorneys-General.
The event will feature prominent figures including:
- Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney-General of the Federation, as the special guest of honour.
- Kanu Agabi, former Attorney-General of the Federation, who will deliver the keynote address.
- Moyosore Onigbanjo, former Lagos State Attorney-General, leading a dynamic panel discussion.
- Ekpo Nta, former ICPC Chairman.
- Prof. Mohammed Tabiu from Bayero University, Kano.
- Prof. Abdulkarim Kana from Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
- Hauwa Abubakar, Attorney-General of Borno State.
The summit is designed to tackle systemic challenges within the justice system that contribute to corruption and obstruct ICPC’s efforts. It aims to develop effective strategies for preventing corruption, enhance ICPC’s capabilities, and foster stronger understanding and collaboration between the ICPC and state governments.
By bringing together key stakeholders, the ICPC hopes to identify specific areas for collaboration and develop solutions that can strengthen anti-corruption initiatives across the country.
