A distraught father is seeking help after his baby sustained severe injuries on their first day at a daycare center in Ago Palace, Okota, Lagos State.
The incident was brought to light by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who shared the parents’ desperate plea for justice on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
According to the father, after dropping their child off for the first time, they were informed by the daycare’s owner that the injuries were caused by another child. However, medical professionals contradicted this claim, stating that the wounds were consistent with an animal attack, further raising questions about the true cause of the injuries.
In his post, Gwamnishu detailed the father’s heart-wrenching account:
“This is what happened to my baby in a school that has daycare here in Lagos state, ‘Ago Palace Okota,’ where I and my wife dropped him off for the first day. The owner of the school said his fellow kid did this to him, but doctors said it was from an animal.”
The father added that despite going to the police to report the incident, the school owner, described as a wealthy woman, allegedly used her influence and resources to avoid accountability.
He expressed frustration over the lack of transparency from the daycare and pleaded for assistance from the public and authorities to uncover the truth about what really happened to his child.
This incident has sparked public concern over the safety and welfare of children in daycare facilities across Nigeria. With increasing reports of child abuse and negligence in early childhood care institutions, many are calling for stricter regulations and enforcement to ensure the safety of children.
Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who has been actively advocating for justice in similar cases, vowed to support the family in their pursuit of justice.
