Nigerian singer Augustine Amedu Obiabo, widely known as Blackface, has made a public call for a reunion of the legendary music group Plantashun Boiz, which originally included himself, 2Face, and Faze. In a recent Instagram post, Blackface expressed his desire for peace and unity among the group members, using the phrase “unity is strength” to highlight the importance of coming together.
Blackface’s post read: “Plantashun Boiz reunion, the question now is to be or not to be and why? @fazealone @official2baba. My people, oya make una talk put mouth for this matter! We are on a mission for world peace and it’s not a small thing! Unity is strength and not division. Let’s go champs.”
The group Plantashun Boiz first disbanded in 2004 following the release of their sophomore album “Sold Out”. They reunited briefly in 2007 to release their third and final album, “Plan B”, before separating once more. In 2017, Blackface revealed he had reconciled with 2Face after a prolonged feud.
In addition to his call for reunion, Blackface has leveled serious allegations against Afrobeats star Asake, accusing him of copying his song without permission. During an interview with Naija FM, Blackface claimed that Asake’s hit single “Joha” is a sample of his track “Ikebe Supa.”
Furthermore, Blackface has accused industry giants Wizkid and Burna Boy of intellectual property theft, alleging that their song “Ginger” is a sample of his track “Twist & Turn”, with only the verses altered. Blackface compared this unauthorized use of his music to child molestation, underscoring the profound impact it has on him.
He stated: “Ginger by Wizkid and Burna Boy is a sample of my track ‘Twist & Turn’; the rhythms, the beat, how the melody starts and ends. Na only the verses dem change. Asake’s ‘Joha’ is a sample of my song ‘Ikebe Supa.’ I dey inspire them.”
Blackface clarified that while he is open to young artists sampling his work, he believes it is essential for them to seek his permission before doing so.
