Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen is reportedly set to join Turkish club Galatasaray on a loan deal until the end of the 2024/25 season. This move follows two previously unsuccessful transfer attempts to Al Ahli and Chelsea.
According to reports, Osimhen is scheduled to undergo medical examinations with Galatasaray soon to finalize the move from Napoli. The transfer news was confirmed by renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on his official social media accounts on Monday, September 2, 2024.
Osimhen is reportedly negotiating a reduction in his buy-out clause, aiming to lower it from €130 million to approximately €75 million. The loan arrangement will see Galatasaray cover nearly €10 million of Osimhen’s current wages at Napoli. However, the Turkish side is not obligated to purchase the player at the end of the loan period.
In a strategic move to safeguard Osimhen’s value, Napoli is expected to extend his contract by an additional year, keeping him tied to the club until 2027. Despite this extension, Napoli remains intent on selling their prized asset in 2025.
Sky Sports Italia has reported that Galatasaray’s pursuit of Osimhen is a direct response to Mauro Icardi’s injury, which could sideline him for an extended period. The club is also considering deploying two strikers up front once Icardi returns from his injury.
This loan deal represents a significant shift for Osimhen, as he looks to make an impact at Galatasaray while Napoli plans for his future within their long-term strategy.
