Seun Kuti, the Afrobeats musician and son of the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, recently shared personal insights about his childhood and relationship with his late father during an appearance on the Zero Conditions podcast. He described his father as a wonderful and amazing dad, emphasizing how he was pampered as a child.
Seun revealed that he was given preferential treatment among his siblings, which made him feel especially close to his father. Despite his siblings possibly having different experiences, Seun expressed that he won what he calls the “daddy lottery” with Fela being his favorite person in the world.
He humorously shared that, due to the pampering he received, he has never done laundry in his life and doesn’t know how to wash anything. Seun also recalled joining his father’s band, Egypt 80, at the age of 8, and after Fela’s death, his family encouraged him to continue with the band and keep the earnings from his performances.
