Matawalle’s Plan to Deploy Military to Sokoto Gains Backing from Northern Groups Over Bello Turji

The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Northern Awareness Network (NAN), and North West Solidarity Forum (NWSF) have voiced their strong support for the strategic military deployment proposed by Defence Minister of State Bello Mohammed Matawalle. This initiative involves relocating military assets to Sokoto State as part of a broader effort to intensify joint military operations against bandits causing chaos in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi States.

In their statements, the leaders of these groups—Yerima Shettima (AYCF), Salihu Suleiman (NAN), and Tanimu Danlawal (NWSF)—highlighted the pressing need for decisive action in response to ongoing violence and criminality that threaten the safety and socio-economic stability of Northern Nigeria. They view the enhanced military presence as a critical measure to restore peace and security, which are essential for fostering development and prosperity in the region.

The groups emphasized their support for any initiatives that prioritize the protection of citizens and the stabilization of communities. They urged the Federal Government to swiftly address and prosecute any dissenting voices that might undermine these efforts, stressing the importance of a coordinated and transparent approach to national security.

They also commended the Minister’s commitment to eradicating notorious bandit leader Bello Turji and his gang, citing the troubling dissemination of videos showing a Nigerian military armored vehicle immobilized in waterlogged areas as a catalyst for this bold action.

The northern groups reiterated their dedication to collaborating with government officials, security agencies, and local communities to ensure a safe and secure environment for all citizens. They called for an inclusive approach where the government communicates objectives clearly, engages with local stakeholders, and addresses community concerns to foster public trust and support for these initiatives.
