Nollywood actress and producer Adanma Luke has publicly apologized following a tragic boat accident that resulted in the deaths of actor John Odonwodo, known as Junior Pope, and four others. The incident, which occurred in April, has deeply affected Luke, who shared her emotional struggle in a video posted on her Instagram page on Monday.
In her heartfelt apology, Luke expressed profound remorse and revealed that the tragedy has plunged her into severe depression. She described her mental health as deteriorating, leaving her unable to work or seek job opportunities. Luke pleaded for prayers and support, stating, “I’m gradually losing my life.”
Luke’s apology was filled with personal anguish as she addressed the public’s criticism and her own grief. She said, “I’m just here to say that I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Nigerians. I’m sorry I took away your loved ones from—what people are saying.”
She continued, “I’m very sad. Even though I try to be strong, I don’t feel strong. I’m devastated that this happened on my set. I’m heartbroken that they had to work for me at that time. I’m not God. If it was destined to happen, why did it have to be me?”
Luke also spoke about the impact of the incident on her personal and professional life. She lamented, “I never understood what depression was until this happened. I’m gradually losing my life. I regret many things and struggle even to reach out for job opportunities.”
Addressing rumors and public scrutiny, she added, “People are saying I went on vacation, but I’m here for business. I’ve been indoors, doing nothing, while trying to support the families who lost their loved ones. Where do you expect me to find all the money? I need to work.”
