200-Level Student Who Murdered FUNAAB Undergraduate Was Fellow Church Member

Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-level Philosophy student from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State, has been arrested for the kidnapping and murder of Christianah Idowu, a 300-level student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). Both students were acquainted through their church in Ogun State.

Christianah, who was traveling to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for industrial training, sought refuge at Adeleye’s family shop after encountering heavy rain. Adeleye, who knew her from their mutual school and church, invited her into his home when the rain worsened.

Inside, Adeleye allegedly attempted to assault Christianah. When she resisted, he killed her. Adeleye then used her phone to contact her family, demanding a ransom of N3 million, which was eventually negotiated down to N350,000.

His attempt to extort money led to his capture after intelligence officers traced him through his bank details and BVN information used during the ransom transaction.

The case has drawn significant public outrage, with calls for prompt justice and stronger measures against gender-based violence in Nigeria.
